Faculty/Staff UB Cards
Faculty and Staff receive their first UB Card (magstripe only) free of charge; If the upgraded chip technology card is required, there is a fee. You should verify with your department which style card you need. If a card is lost or stolen, the fee for replacement is $20.00 (Magstripe only) or $23.50 (chip style). The UB Card Office cannot accept cash or credit card payments in person. Payment for a replacement card can be made by adding funds to your FlexiBULL Bucks online at get.cbord.com/myubcard, or with a credit card at the UB Marketplace General Store. If you are using the credit card option, please pre-pay before coming to the UB Card Office.
For your convenience, we can mail a replacement card to your home address. Please send an email to us at ubcard-info@buffalo.edu using your UB email account, and include your full name, person number and mailing address, the fee would be $25.00 (This option is only for FlexiBULL Bucks payment options.) If you are replacing a damaged/broken card, you must present all the pieces of the broken or damaged card. The fee to replace a damaged card would be $13.50 (Chip style); This would be an automatic upgrade to the chip style card.
Eligibility
You will be eligible for a UB Card once you are registered for class. First-year or transfer students obtain their UB Cards at their orientation session. All other undergraduate and summer-only students may obtain their UB Cards at the UB Card Office during regular business hours. Your UB Card is valid while you are a registered student. If you leave UB and return at a later date, that card will become valid again. It is a valuable resource for any time you spend at UB. All registered students must have a UB Card and carry it with them at all times.
Your UB Card is Non-Transferable, it can ONLY be used by the person named on the card. If your card is being used by any other person it will be confiscated. The fee to replace a confiscated card is $25, and is non-negotiable.
Online Students
The UB Card Office is pleased to share with you the recent development of a UB Card made just for our Online Students. We have worked with the Graduate School of Education to produce a non-photo UB Card that we can provide to our online participants. The card contains most of the elements of a traditional UB Card.
The cost of the card is $23.50, which will be charged to your University Account and your UB Card will be mailed directly to you.
Each request will be confirmed by verifying course registration records. This card is not meant to be a substitute for a traditional UB Card; it is intended to verify that you are a member of the extended University Community. If in the future you come to campus to continue your studies or research then you must obtain the traditional photo UB Card. You will be able to exchange this card towards the purchase of a traditional UB Card.
To apply for an Online Program Official UB Card, please fill out this application.
Preferred/Chosen Names
UB allows students to enter or edit their preferred/chosen first names in HUB, and this name will appear on the front of your UB Card. Your legal name will appear on the back of the card.
If you would like a preferred/chosen name to appear on your UB Card, please visit the Office of the Registrar’s Preferred/Chosen Name webpage for instructions on how to enter or edit your preferred/chosen name in HUB. To provide sufficient time for us to process the change, please wait 24 hours after submitting your preferred/chosen name before visiting the UB Card Office at 1Capen to obtain your updated UB Card. You may contact the UB Card Office in advance to ensure the update has been completed at ubcard-info@buffalo.edu.
If you are attending a UB new student orientation, please ensure that you enter or edit your preferred/chosen name in HUB at least five days prior to your scheduled orientation as UB Cards are printed and prepared for students ahead of time.
Students who currently have a UB Card may purchase a replacement card with their preferred/chosen name. The Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) will cover the replacement cost for students who require a new UB Card in order to accurately reflect their gender identity. Please contact EDI at (716) 645-2266 or diversity@buffalo.edu for approval of this payment.
